SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Capturing its fifth win in its last six
contests, Anderson University women's tennis blanked nonconference
opponent Converse, 9-0, Sunday afternoon at the Converse Tennis
Complex.
With the victory, the Trojans move to 11-4 on the season and
close a grueling seven-match road stretch with a 5-2 record. The
Valkyries, who were shorthanded on the day, fall to 1-9
overall.
In the doubles portion, the nationally-ranked tandem of Ivey
Welborn and Rebecca Bruning knocked off Alex Schlesener and
Samantha Sheffield at No. 1, 8-2, while the sister duo of Lindsay
Gregory and Abigail Gregory notched an 8-2 victory at the No. 2
position. AU's team of Alexandra Ebner and Nikkola Wichenko was
awarded at win by default at the No. 3 slot.
Within the singles round, Welborn defeated Schlesener 6-0, 7-5
at No. 1, while Ebner cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Margaret
Pridmore at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3, Wichenko earned a 6-4, 6-0
triumph over Taylor Littlejohn-Barr, as Lindsay Gregory posted a
6-2, 6-1 win over Sheffield at the No. 4 spot.
Rounding out the singles portion was Abigail Gregory with a 6-0,
6-1 victory over Mary Kaitlyn Flynn at the No. 5 slot, while
Carolina Monteiro was awarded a win by default at No. 6.
Anderson returns to the courts on Wednesday when it welcomes
Wingate for a South Atlantic Conference showdown. First serve from
Max Grubbs Memorial Courts is scheduled for 2 p.m.
