wrapped up its four-game game road swing by dropping a
doubleheader, 9-3 and 6-0, to Georgia College, Saturday afternoon
at the Bobcats' Peeler Complex.
Anderson slipped to 4-2 on the young season, while suffering its
first sweep since falling twice to Lenoir-Rhyne at home last March.
Georgia College improved to 4-2 on the season.
Game #1
Georgia College 9, Anderson 3
Senior Jessica Neidigh was 2-for-3 in the opener and added a walk,
while ripping a double and an RBI-triple. Molly Child, Carli
Hurtado, Bri Cason and Rebecca Martin each added singles for the
Trojans.
Freshman hurler Chelsea Jones (1-1) absorbed the loss after
allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits over two innings. She
struck out one Bobcat hitter. Sophomore right-hander Augie Pena
surrendered six earned runs on six hits in four innings of relief
in the circle. The Geneva, Ala., native struck out three and walked
two.
The host Bobcats posted three runs in the bottom of the second
inning and added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead, while
putting the game out of reach with four runs in the fourth
inning.
The Trojan bats woke up in the top of the fifth, as Cason led
off the inning with a single to right-center and scored one out
later on Neidigh's triple to right field. Neidigh crossed the plate
when Child followed with a run-scoring infield single.
AU added its final run in the top of the seventh inning when
Martin struck out but reached when the pitch got away from the
catcher. She scored on Neidigh's opposite-field double to
left.
Game #2
Georgia College 6, Anderson 0
Junior center fielder Molly Child notched a sixth-inning double,
while Jones added a single and a walk in three trips to the
plate.
Sophomore pitcher Lauren Rudesheim (1-1) took the loss after
surrendering six runs (one earned) over six innings, while issuing
one walk.
The game was scoreless through four innings, as Rudesheim
limited the Bobcats to just three singles over the first four
frames. But the Trojan offense was unable to take advantage, as AU
was held to just four hits over the seven innings.
Georgia College's Holland Coursey broke the scoreless tie by
leading off the bottom of the fifth inning with a homer over the
right-field fence and the Bobcats erupted for five more runs with
two outs. Junior Taylor Campbell did the most damage with a
three-run homer to left.
Anderson will look to get back in the win column when the Trojans
open a four-game nonconference homestand with North Greenville on
Wednesday. First-pitch from Smethers Field is set for 2 p.m.
