INDIANAPOLIS - Claiming its 14th straight victory on Saturday
and taking sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic
Conference standings, Anderson University women's basketball
remained third in the weekly NCAA Southeast Region rankings,
announced by the NCAA on Wednesday.
The Trojans come into the week with a 21-3 overall record with
an 18-2 mark in SAC play, marking the most conference wins by a
team in the conference's history. The 14-straight wins marks the
most consecutive wins by an AU squad since the 2007-08 season, as
the Black and Gold have not dropped a contest since Jan. 3.
Anderson remains the top-rated team from the SAC in the weekly
poll, as it was joined by league foes Wingate (No. 5), Newberry
(No. 6) and Carson-Newman (No. 8) in the ranking. Catawba, which
earned the No. 10 position in last week's ranking, dropped out of
the poll this week.
The Trojans continue to trail Limestone, which claimed the first
spot, and Columbus State (No. 2), as both teams hold identical 26-1
overall records. Following AU in the fourth spot was Lander, while
North Georgia fell between Newberry and C-N in the No. 7 position.
King and USC Aiken rounded out the final two positions in the poll,
grabbing the ninth and 10th spots, respectively.
Anderson rounds out its regular season this week when it travels
to Tusculum on Wednesday and concludes the season with Senior Day
against Queens on Saturday. Tip-off against the Royals is set for 2
p.m. from the Abney Athletic Center.
The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on
Wednesdays through March 4, with the NCAA D-II Tournament
selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 8.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the
NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the
tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference
Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large
selections.
