Women's Hoops Ranked Third in NCAA Southeast Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - In the first Southeast Region rankings released by the NCAA on Wednesday, Anderson University women's basketball was ranked third, announced by the committee on Wednesday.

In-state rival, Limestone, claimed the top spot in the ranking, as it holds a 24-1 overall record, as it was ranked No. 2 in the latest National Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA. Peach Belt Conference leader, Columbus State, took the No. 2 position after being ranked No. 6 in the national poll on Tuesday, as the Cougars boast a 24-1 record.

The Trojans are the highest rated South Atlantic Conference team in the weekly rankings, as they hold a 19-3 overall record entering Wednesday's home contest with Carson-Newman. The Eagles, Wingate, Newberry and Catawba were all represented in the poll, as the Bulldogs captured the No. 6 spot, while C-N was ranked eighth. Newberry and Catawba claimed the final two spots in the ranking, respectively, as the top-eight advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Lander was slotted fourth, while North Georgia landed in the fifth spot rounding out the teams from the PBC. King found the eighth spot between Carson-Newman and Newberry, marking the second team from Conference Carolinas to find a spot in the poll.

The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 4, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 8.

Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
