ANDERSON, S.C. - Using 22 points from junior Jasmine Franklin, Anderson University women's basketball recorded its 11th straight victory with a 71-58 triumph over South Atlantic Conference rival Mars Hill Wednesday evening at Stanford Arena.

The win is AU's third straight victory by double figures as it improves its record to 18-3 on the season with a 15-2 mark in league play. With the victory, the Trojans remain deadlocked with Wingate for first place in the current league standings, as it clinched the season sweep of Mars Hill (8-14, 6-11 SAC) for the second straight season.

Franklin's 22 points match her career high, which she set last season against Lander, as she went 9-for-11 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line for her 12th double-figure scoring game of the season. Following the junior was senior Sierra Simpson with 14 points and an assist shy of her third double-double of the season with nine. The point guard also racked up four rebounds, a pair of steals and a blocked shot to stuff her stat line.

Senior guard Lesley Woods dropped in 12 points, headlined by three made 3-pointers on the evening, while sophomore Alexis Dillard needed two rebounds for a double-double, as she posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Dillard closed the contest with a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance from the field.

For the game, Anderson controlled the paint, scoring 40 of the team's 71 points from the lane, but tied Mars Hill in the rebounding battle with 34 apiece. Junior Jennifer Monroe matched Dillard's rebounding total of eight on the evening, as she grabbed a team-high three offensive rebounds.

The Lions were paced by Camille Glymph with a game-high 25 points, as she has scored a combined 64 points against the Trojans this season, headlined by a 39-point game inside the Abney Athletic Center on Jan. 14. On the night, Glymph was 7-for-18 from the field, highlighted by a 4-for-7 performance from behind the 3-point line while playing the entire 40 minutes.

Teammates Kelsey Espinosa added 12 points and substitute Cadence Wilmoth posted 10 points, as the rest of the Lions scored 11 points, combined. The trio of Glymph, Espinosa and Wilmoth was responsible for 47 of the team's 58 points (81.0 percent).

Anderson started quickly as it scored the game's first six points of the game, as it eventually maintained its lead for the remainder of the game. Following the 6-0 run, Mars Hill countered with five straight points, capped off by a Glymph 3-pointer to bring the home side within one at 6-5.

After Simpson scored on a jumper, MHU's Raven Brown added a lay-in to send the score to 8-7, but it was the closest the Lions would come for the remainder of the game. Anderson scored the next four points and took a five-point lead.

With the score at 12-9, Woods buried her first trey of the contest and began a 7-0 run over the two minutes that gave Anderson a 10-point lead with 12 minutes left in the opening half. In the spurt, Anderson held the Lions scoreless for over five minutes and took advantage of the Mars Hill miscues.

As Anderson held on to a 23-13 advantage at the nine-minute mark, junior Madison Floyd drained her only 3-pointer of the game to send the score to 26-13. Glymph would answer the trey with one of her own, but that marked the last field goal MHU would tally until the 1:23 mark in the first half. Anderson would jump out to a 14-point lead when Dillard converted on a traditional three-point play with 25 seconds left.

Clinging to their largest lead of the game, the Trojans could not contain Glymph from giving MHU a bit of momentum before half and she sunk a 3-pointer in the host's final possession of the period. Glymph's trey set the halftime score at 38-27.

After Simpson began the half with a lay-in to give AU a 13-point lead, the visitors maintained their double-figure lead until a Glymph jumper sent the score to 48-39 with 12:44 left in the contest. Anderson bounced right back on the next possession when sophomore guard Nakia Young found an open Simpson and the guard put in a lay-up which handed the Trojans a 50-39 advantage.

The Black and Gold would take their largest lead of the game of 18 when Franklin scored inside the paint at the 6:49 mark. MHU could not cut its deficit to single digits for the remainder of the contest, as Anderson went 4-for-4 from the line with under two minutes remaining to seal the conference victory.

The Trojans closed the game shooting 49.1 percent (27-for-55) for the game, as they shot over 40 percent for the second consecutive game. Defensively, AU held the Lions to 39.6 percent (21-for-53) from the floor, as the home side went 0-for-3 from behind the arc in the second half.

"This was a great win on the road for our program," Anderson head coach Jimmy Garrity said. "I was really proud of our defensive effort guarding Mars Hill's triangle offense and we showed great toughness and discipline holding them to 58 points. Offensively, we were aggressive attacking the basket and making plays."

Anderson looks to keep its winning streak alive on Saturday, as it seeks to avenge an earlier season setback to Catawba. Tip-off from Goodman Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
