BELLEVUE, Wash. - After posting her second hat trick this
season, Anderson University women's soccer standout Idoia Agirre
has been nominated for the Hero Sports Division II Women's Soccer
Gem of the Week, announced by the national publication on
Wednesday.
Agirre scored three of the Trojans' five goals in a 5-0 rout
over nonconference opponent Emmanuel last Wednesday, increasing her
season goal total to 18 on the season. On Saturday, the forward
caused a Catawba penalty inside the 18-yard box, leading to a
game-winning penalty kick from teammate Kenzie Van Heusen. The
Legazpi, Spain native's goal total currently leads the South
Atlantic Conference and slots her third nationally. Agirre also
ranks fourth in the nation in total points (42) and 27th in assists
(6).
Earlier this season, Agirre racked up a pair of AstroTurf SAC
Player of the Week honors, as well as claiming the first National
Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II Player of the
Week award of the 2015 season. Agirre has scored goals in nine of
the team's 14 matches this season and has posted at least a point
in 10 contests.
Agirre is one of three players from the Southeast Region to be
nominated, as Clayton State's Maria Marti Bartis was listed after
her three-point performance in a 2-1 overtime victory over
nationally-ranked North Georgia and Armstrong's Erica Laurens
following her first career victory in goal for the Pirates.
