ANDERSON, S.C. - With double-doubles from senior Sierra Simpson and junior Jennifer Monroe, Anderson University women's basketball used 42 second-half points en route to a 70-57 victory over South Atlantic Conference rival Brevard Wednesday evening at the Abney Athletic Center.

With the victory, the Trojans have won six straight contests, marking their longest winning streak of the season, and improve to 12-3 on the campaign and 9-2 in league play. The win also seals the season sweep of the Tornados, as they fall to 3-11 overall and 2-9 within the SAC.

Through 14 games on the year, Anderson has failed to record a double-double after posting four through this point of the season a year ago. On the night, Simpson tallied 11 points and 14 rebounds to go along with her three assists, while Monroe scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the team's first and second double-doubles of the season. For Simpson and Monroe, the double-doubles were their fourth of their respective collegiate careers.

With the tandem's combined 24 rebounds, the Black and Gold totaled their most rebounds in a game under head coach Jimmy Garrity with 57. Anderson out-rebounded the visitors, 57-28, marking the fifth straight game the Trojans have out-rebounded their opponent and first time they have posted a rebounding margin higher than 20 (29).

Offensively, junior sharpshooter Madison Floyd paced AU with a team-high 14 points, including a career-high four made 3-pointers, while sophomore forward Alexis Dillard added 12 points and five rebounds. Senior guard Lesley Woods, who closed the game with seven points, tallied her 200th career 3-pointer, as she became the third Trojan in program history and eighth in SAC history to make 200 3-pointers or more for their career.

Brevard was led by guards Katie Williams and Madison Lenox who combined for 37 of the team's 57 points on the night. Williams finished 9-for-16 from the floor and 7-for-7 from the free throw line, as she accumulated a game-high 27 points. Lenox added 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

Despite the double-figure win, Anderson got off to a sluggish start by missing its first four shots of the contest. Simpson broke the scoreless drought and gave AU the game's first points by banking in a jumper to hand the home side an early 2-0 lead.

AU would hang on to its lead until Williams connected on Brevard's second 3-pointer of the game at the 13:51 mark in the first half, making the score 10-8 in favor of the Tornados. The trey was sandwiched in the middle of a Lenox 3-pointer and a lay-in from Williams, as Brevard went on a quick 8-0 run to take a four-point advantage.

Despite Young snapping the spurt with a runner in the lane, Williams answered with five straight points, including another 3-pointer, giving BC a 17-10 lead with 7:49 remaining. Brevard maintained its lead for the next five minutes until Floyd dropped in a fast-break lay-up with just over three minutes remaining to give the Black and Gold a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

Anderson would eventually take a one-point lead into halftime, 28-27, as the lead marked its smallest halftime advantage of the season. Coming into Wednesday's game, Anderson held a 10-0 record when leading at halftime.

Following the break, Monroe scored the first four points of the period and forced Brevard to call an early second-half timeout. The Tornados continued to search for an answer defensively, as the Trojans would eventually take their first double-figure advantage of the night when Dillard put in a lay-up at the 13:37 mark, bringing the AU lead to 45-35.

With the lead, Brevard's attack began to cut into the Anderson deficit when Lynsey Crisp, who scored eight points on the evening, and Williams combined to make four straight free throws to bring the score to 47-41 with ten minutes remaining. As a team, BC finish the contest shooting 11-for-15 (73.3 percent) from the line.

Floyd responded the free throw stretch with a 3-pointer from the wing and Dillard followed with a bucket inside the paint to bring the deficit to double digits once again at 52-41 with eight minutes left. Despite the lead, Brevard clawed itself back once again and chopped the Anderson lead to 55-50 with less than 5:30 on the clock.

Able to find some offense down the stretch, the Trojans out-scored the Tornados 15-7 for the remainder of the contest, as they shot 10-for-13 from the charity stripe in the final 5:10 of the game. Simpson headlined the effort with a 5-for-6 performance in the final minute, as she posted double-figure points for the first time since Jan. 3.

Garrity will showcase his Trojans in front of a national audience on Saturday when they head to SAC opponent, Queens, as the game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. Tip-off from the Queen City is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
