HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Out-scoring Coker by 20 points in the second half, Anderson University women's basketball captured its second straight victory, knocking off the Cobras 65-54 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the DeLoach Center.

The triumph was the Trojans' ninth of the season, as they have recorded win in six of their last eight contests. In addition, Anderson improves to 6-2 in SAC play and moves to 5-2 in road games for the season.

Three Trojans scored in double figures for the afternoon, as the sharpshooting pair of senior Lesley Woods and junior Madison Floyd posted identical 13-point games. The 13 points from Floyd is a new season-high, as she went 6-for-16 from the field, highlighted by a 3-pointer. Woods' closed the game with four 3-pointers, becoming the fourth Trojan in program history to make over 190 treys for their career. Woods is now one 3-pointer from tying Alexa Neal for third place on the all-time 3-pointers made list.

Sophomore Nakia Young scored 10 points, posting double figures for the second consecutive game. Young was 4-of-8 from the field, as AU's bench scored 36 of the team's 65 points for the day. Senior Sierra Simpson, who began the second half scoreless, finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Jasmine Franklin followed the senior and grabbed seven rebounds.

After sophomore Alexis Dillard buried a jumper to make the score 4-3 to hand Anderson a quick lead, Coker's Hailey Yohn answered the bucket with a 3-pointer to provide the home side a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the period. The Yohn trey began a 7-0 run for the Cobras handing Coker a 10-4 advantage.

Anderson would close the gap within two, twice, throughout the half, but was unable to regain its lead as Coker took a 34-25 lead into halftime. The Cobras closed the first 20 minutes shooting 48 percent (12-for-25), including a 6-for-9 (66.7 percent) performance from behind the 3-point line. Yohn paced the home side going 3-for-3 from deep for a game-high nine points at the break.

Despite shooting just 11-for-32 for the first half, the Trojans opened the second half with a 9-0 run beginning with Floyd's lone 3-pointer of the game. Following the run, Anderson would take its first lead of the game when Simpson knocked in a jumper at the 15:28 mark, handing AU the 38-37 lead. The Simpson basket was in the middle of an eventual 11-0 run for the Black and Gold, as they jumped out to a 45-37 lead with just over 12 minutes left.

After 10 minutes have gone by, Anderson took its first double-figure lead when Woods received a pass from Young to give the visitors an 11-point lead. Coker's Tanesha Stenson dropped in a lay-up, but Young responded with a one of her two treys of the game, as the Trojans grabbed another double-figure lead with less than eight minutes left.

Anderson maintained its double-figure lead until Coker brought the score within nine with a Kendra Lambert 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining. Having to foul in the final minute, Simpson and freshmen Jasmine Raynor and Kaylee Koerperich sealed the contest with four made free throws down the stretch.

"I was really proud of the way we responded in the second half," Anderson head coach Jimmy Garrity. "I was disappointed in our first half play both on offense and defense and we challenge them at halftime. I give this team a lot of credit on the way responded. In the second half, I thought we were really good on defensive side of the ball, which led to offensive opportunities in our transition game. We look forward to returning home on Wednesday for a very big game against a tough opponent."

Coker was led by Yohn with 12 points, while teammate Kiara Shoats followed with 10 points. Stenson posted a game-high nine rebounds, despite the Cobras being out-rebounded 46-32 for the game.

Anderson returns home on Wednesday when it welcomes Mars Hill to the Electric City. Tip-off from the Abney Athletic Center is slated for 6 p.m.
