TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Paced by 21 shots for the match, Anderson University women's soccer captured its second straight win to begin the 2014 season, as the Trojans knocked off in-state rival North Greenville Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium/Field.

With the victory, AU begins the season with a perfect 2-0 record, marking the first time the Trojans have started 2-0 since they posted three straight wins to begin the 2010 season. NGU falls to 0-2 after falling to Truett-McConnell earlier in the week.

After freshman Rachael Whaling scored twice against Southern Wesleyan on Thursday, two more newcomers found the scoresheet this afternoon, as freshman Maddie Volz tallied her first career goal in the 48th minute, while junior Mariana Poveda notched an insurance goal in the 71st minute to put the match out of reach. Junior Emily Cowan dished out her second assist of the season on the eventual game-winner by Volz.

For the contest, the Black and Goal outshot their opponents 21-1, while 10 came on goal and troubled the goalkeeping duo of Katie Tate and Michelle Huddleston. Poveda led the team with four shots on goal, while Volz followed with two. Freshman Abbey Mills recorded three shots, while Cowan, Jaclyn Kubiak and freshman Kristin Herbert notched two shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Lancaster earned her second shutout of the season, despite falling to record a save for the day. The clean sheet was Lancaster's third of her career.

"We were excellent from start to finish in terms of creating chances and making things happen," Anderson head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "We were wasteful in front of goal in the first half and it was disappointing to go scoreless at halftime. We regrouped and responded brilliantly to get a great goal early in the second half and were dominant until the end. I'm delighted to be 2-0 and we're looking forward to next week."

Anderson looks to continue its winning ways on Wednesday when it returns home to face Florida Southern. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is set for 5 p.m.
