ANDERSON, S.C. - Behind senior Hailey Pittman's .773 hitting percentage on the day, including a school-record .750 percentage against GRU Augusta, the Anderson University volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center, blanking both Coker, 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-22) and GRU Augusta 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-21).

"I thought we played really well against Coker," said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "I'm pretty sure we took them out of their system and did a great job of playing defense, putting up blocks and running our offense. I thought we played well against Augusta State. We did what we are supposed to do as far as the game plan. We were maybe a little lax on defense, but we were good enough to win."

Anderson (10-3, 4-2 SAC) has won four of its' last five outings and notched its eighth and ninth shutouts of the season with the pair of sweeps. Coker slipped to 3-10 overall with back-to-back losses to both AU and GRU Augusta and is searching for its first league win of the season. GRU Augusta dropped to 10-4 after topping Coker in the middle contest of the afternoon.

Pittman led the Trojans with 17 kills, while not committing an error in 22 attempts on the afternoon, en route to her stellar afternoon. The 5-foot-11 middle blocker also recorded five blocks in the two victories. Sophomore Jessica Harris and freshman Marissa Mitter each tallied 13 kills, with Harris adding a team-high seven blocks and Mitter collecting four service aces on the day. Senior outside hitter Shannon Gillespie garnered 12 kills and 14 digs, while sophomore Allison Gaminde chipped in eight kills without an error in 13 attempts. Sophomore Priscilla Irizarry dished out a team-high 33 assists and came up with 10 digs, while the freshman duo of Kayla Thomas and Tatianna Grodecky each handed out 22 assists. Senior libero Alix Hooker recorded a team-best 33 digs, with senior Kelley Lacey notching 12 digs.

The Trojans recorded a season-best .478 hitting percentage in the shutout of Coker, including hitting .545 in the second set. With Mitter serving, AU scored 10 unanswered points as part of a 15-1 outburst, to open the frame. Mitter was again serving for the final two points of the set, as AU closed the frame three straight points.

Anderson pushed out to an 11-5 lead and doubled up the Cobras late in the second set, committing just two miscues in 22 attack attempts.

The Trojans steadily built an early 9-5 lead in the final set, with the Cobras staying within striking distance and evening the score at 10 apiece, before AU equaled its largest lead of the frame, at 17-13. With the Trojans holding a 24-20 edge, Coker posted a pair of scores before AU capitalized on a service error to claim the match.

AU jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the opening set against GRU Augusta, before the Jaguars rallied with an 8-2 outburst to take a brief one-point lead. With the score knotted at 12 apiece and Tinsley Hallman serving for AU, the Trojans rattled off a 7-1 run to take a lead they would not relinquish. GRU Augusta closed within two, but AU posted four of the set's final five points to take the win.

The second set saw 15 ties and seven lead changes before AU took the lead for good on an error by the Jags and closed the win on a kill by Gillespie.

Neither team was able to build more than a four-point cushion in the third frame, with the Trojans breaking away from an 11-11 deadlock to push out to a 20-16 advantage. GRU Augusta again climbed within 22-20, but Irizarry and Pittman knocked down back-to-back kills before the Jags' Kali Boatwright and Pittman traded kills to finish the match.

Following a five-day layoff, Anderson returns to the court on Friday, when the Trojans embark on a two-match conference road swing, beginning at Catawba. First-serve in Salisbury, N.C., is set for 7 p.m.
