ANDERSON, S.C. - With three players reaching double-figure kills, the Anderson University volleyball team bounced back from a hard-fought five-set loss less than 24 hours earlier by sweeping Mars Hill, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-14) in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

"It was a good win," said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "We played well, consistent and kept the energy level higher than we did yesterday. Overall, I thought everyone played well. I thought Shannon played extremely well today."

Behind its third-highest hitting percentage of the season, Anderson (8-2, 2-1 SAC) earned its fourth win in the last five outings, while Mars Hill fell to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Senior Shannon Gillespie recorded a match-high 12 kills, while senior Hailey Pittman and freshman Marissa Mitter each posted 10 kills, with Pittman adding seven total blocks on the afternoon. Mitter committed just one error in 21 attempts for a match-best .429 hitting percentage. Redshirt sophomore Priscilla Irizarry dished out a match-high 19 assists, while freshman Tatianna Grodecky chipped in 17 assists. Senior Alix Hooker posted a match-high 26 digs.

The Trojans snapped an early tie in the opening set and pushed out to a double-digit lead, at 22-12, as Pittman and sophomore Allison Gaminde combined on a block. AU doubled up the Lions on a solo block by Pittman and eventually claimed the set on a miscue by Mars Hill.

Gillespie led AU with six kills in the second frame, with Pittman notching four kills in eight attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Leading, 14-13, the Trojans went on a 7-3 run to gain control of the set. Mars Hill closed within two on two occasions, but the Trojans scored four of the set's final five points to pull away for the win.

Anderson hit .297 in the third and final set, while holding the Lions to a zero percentage on the attack. The Trojans opened the set by scoring five unanswered points, held off a Mars Hill rally and used a 9-2 surge to build a 17-9 cushion. Grodecky closed the set by serving for the final four points, including a pair of aces during the closing moments.

Anderson goes on a brief one-match conference road trip to Lenoir-Rhyne, before Wingate and Coker invade the Abney Center on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
