ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anderson University volleyball middle blocker
Hailey Pittman has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic
Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office
Tuesday morning.
Pittman posted a career-best .625 attack percentage (24
attempts) in the Trojans win past Limestone on Saturday, as the
5-foot-11 middle blocker helped lead Anderson to a 3-1 record on
the week. Pittman's attack percentage versus the Saints marked the
fourth-highest in school history, and she committed just eight
errors in 82 attempts, with 44 kills on the week for a .439 attack
percentage in four matches. She also hit .692 vs. Lees-McRae (13
attempts).
In addition to the team-high 44 kills for the week (3.14/set) on
a balanced offense that featured seven players with double-figure
kills, she also added a team-best 12 blocks. AU notched wins past
Francis Marion, Limestone and Lees-McRae, while falling to the host
Pacers at the USC Aiken Invitational. Pittman was named to the
Second-Team All-Tournament Team.
Pittman posted 19 kills and three blocks versus Francis Marion
and USC Aiken on Friday, then followed up with 25 kills and nine
blocks against Limestone and Lees-McRae on Saturday. The Orlando,
Fla., native ranks third in the conference in blocks per set
(1.04/set) and hitting percentage (.378) and eighth in kills. She
currently stands 11th in Anderson's record books with 941 career
kills and 10th all-time with 161 blocks.
"Hailey had a fantastic weekend," said Anderson head coach Craig
Mosqueda. "She helped her team by putting up great numbers both in
blocking and leading us offensively. Hailey has worked hard to
improve her blocking, and it is showing."
Pittman claims honor for the second time in her career, after
earning the accolade prior to the first meeting versus Brevard last
season.
Anderson visits Brevard tonight in the conference-opener for
both teams, with first-serve versus the Tornados scheduled for 7
p.m. at Boshamer Gymnasium.
