ANDERSON, S.C. - Four Trojans finished perfect for the
afternoon, as Anderson University women's tennis captured a 7-2
over Brevard in South Atlantic Conference action Thursday afternoon
at Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.
The win evens up AU's record at 4-4 for the year, while moving
above .500 in league play at 3-2. Brevard, which has won three of
its last four contests, falls to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the
SAC.
Junior Lindsay Gregory and freshman Rebecca Bruning (No. 2)
began the afternoon with an 8-1 victory in the doubles round, while
the sophomore tandem of Alexandra Ebner and Nikkola Wichenko posted
an 8-5 win at the No. 3 position.
After taking a 2-1 lead into the singles round, five Trojans
recorded wins in straight sets. Senior Avery Owens grabbed her
fourth straight victory of the season, as she defeated Michelle
Prata 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.
Bruning continued the winning trend at No. 3 with a 6-1, 7-5
triumph, while Ebner cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Caludia
Hellman at the No. 4 position.
Rounding out the singles round, Gregory notched a 6-1, 6-1
victory over Nirvanna Silva at No. 5, while Wichenko recorded her
fourth straight singles win over Ana Drummond, 6-3, 6-0.
The Trojans return to the courts on Friday when they host Peach
Belt Conference opponent GRU Augusta. First serve from Max Grubbs
Memorial Courts is scheduled for 1 p.m.
