GREENWOOD, S.C. - Despite earning three singles victories,
Anderson University women's tennis fell just short as the Trojans
dropped to Lander 5-4 in nonconference action Monday afternoon at
the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
Leading the way for AU was freshman newcomer Rebecca Bruning as
she claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Lander's Renata Mello at No. 3
singles. Prior to the singles win, the freshman was paired up with
Lindsay Gregory at the No. 2 doubles spot, as the duo defeated
Marion Courbis and Ivanka Mocic, 8-2, for Anderson's lone doubles
win.
In the singles round, after Bruning's second singles triumph of
the season, junior Karen Ching posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over
Carolina Lainez at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Alexandra Ebner
matched Ching's performance with a 6-3, 7-6 triumph over Tiffany
Vanhpraseuth at No. 4. With the victories, both Ching and Ebner
claim their first singles wins of the 2014 season.
Despite the singles wins, the Trojans were unable to find their
clinching victory for their first win of the season, as Gregory
(No. 5), senior Avery Owens (No. 2) and sophomore Nikkola Wichenko
(No. 6) all suffered straight set setbacks.
Anderson looks to get into the win column on Wednesday when it
hosts USC Aiken. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
