DUE WEST, S.C. - Senior Krystal Goss' bender from the corner found the back of the net and began a scoring trend, as Anderson University women's soccer picked up its first win of the year with a 5-0 victory over Erskine Monday night at Huggins Field.

Goss' tally is her first goal of the season after recording 15 goals in her first three seasons. The goal came on a corner kick which actually bent into the net behind Erskine goalkeeper Ashton Burgess. For Goss, the goal was long awaited after leading the team in shots after the first three matches with five.

After the senior's goal, freshman Madison Taylor got into the goal column in the 52nd minute when she took a pass from senior Olivia Scalzitti. Taylor headed in her second goal of the season, and second in as many games.

Five minutes later, freshman Anna Masdottir provided an insurance goal for the Trojans when she received a pass from Taylor at the top of the box. Masdottir's goal was the first of her career.

Faith Johannes and Emily Perez added the final goals of the night and clinched the 5-0 victory for the Trojans. Johannes' goal now ties Taylor for the team-lead with two goals apiece. Johannes' goal was assisted by Taylor who ended the night with two assists, as she moved into the team-lead in the category. For Perez, the goal was her first of her career.

"I'm proud of our girls for adjusting and finding a rhythm in the second half," head coach Samar Azem said. "We have seen some positive things from the girls the last few games and now we are developing a confidence in the attack."

For the match, Anderson (1-2-1, 0-0-1 SAC) outshot the Flying Fleet 28-6 after being outshot in its first three matches of the year. Goss pelted Burgess throughout the night, firing six shots on goal and eight shots total.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp moves into a tied for 10th place on the all-time shutouts list with 17 career clean sheets. For the night, Neipp made two saves in just over 84 minutes of action.

The 5-0 win is AU's largest margin of victory since a 5-0 victory over Converse last season. In the last two seasons, the Trojans have outscored Erskine 9-0 in their last two meetings. Goss has 22-percent of the goals scored in the last two meetings.

With the victory, Anderson earns its second point in the Beville Cup after the men's soccer program captured the first point in the series with a 6-2 win over the Fleet earlier this season. AU is now up 2-0 in the standings, as it tries to retain the trophy from last season.

"We are going to build off this win and we're excited to get the Beville Cup point," Azem said. "Olivia (Scalzitti) stepped up tonight and Maddie (Taylor) did incredibly well to get us an attacking presence. Credit to Erskine, they were well organized and (Ashton) Burgess did phenomenally well. She had some great saves."

The Trojans return to action and the Upstate on Wednesday, Sept. 18 as they host Georgia College in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is set for 5 p.m.
