ANDERSON, S.C. - Freshman Madison Taylor's first collegiate goal with 25 seconds left spoiled a Catawba victory, as Anderson University women's soccer drew even with the Lady Indians in a 2-2 tie Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Taylor found the ball at her feet after being deflected several times in the Catawba box. Taylor put a left foot behind a shot and beat Catawba goalkeeper Bethany Davis to her left to push the score to 2-2. The 2-2 score closed out the match as the team combined for just three shots in the two overtime periods.

Before the exciting final minute, the teams went into halftime with a 0-0 score. AU defender Faith Johannes opened the scoring in the 48th minute when the ball found her off a deflection from a corner. Her shot beat Davis, who entered the game in the second half after Angelica Pawlowski started the game in goal. For Johannes, the goal was her first tally in an Anderson uniform.

After the Johannes goal, Catawba struck back with back-to-back goals from Juliana Conte and Emily Auwarter. Both goals came from passes from Sophie Waller, as the Lady Indians took a 2-1 lead into the 89th minute.

After Taylor's equalizer, Anderson's best opportunity came in the opening four minutes of the first overtime when Tera Dolan's shot was stopped by Davis. For the rest of the 16 minutes, the Trojans were unable to trouble Davis.

"I thought both teams battled tonight," head coach Samar Azem said. "Faith (Johannes) did a great job to put us up, but we need to learn to hold a lead and capitalize on the rhythm of the game, which I am certain that will come as we gain experience."

In goal, senior Kaitlyn Neipp continued to impress for the season as she made nine saves in her first draw of the season. The backline in front of Neipp also shined as they combined for both of AU's goals and four and the team's nine shots, including three on goal. Senior Krystal Goss and Dolan each combined for two shots on the afternoon.

"Kaitlyn (Neipp) did well in goal, but Catawba took advantage of some errors in the box," Azem said. "Our entire team battled today but we're not satisfied with the draw. I am excited in what these ladies want to accomplish and believe our future is bright."

The Trojans have a quick turnaround as they seek their Beville Cup point against Erskine on Monday. Kickoff from Due West is set for 7 p.m.
