GREENWOOD, S.C. - Despite forcing overtime, the Anderson University women's soccer team was unable to hold off Lander, as the Trojans fell victim to a golden goal in the 99th minute of the first overtime period Wednesday evening at the Jeff May Complex.

Senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp recorded five saves, but recorded her second loss of the season as AU moves to 0-2 on the year. Anderson was able to keep Lander, who is ranked in the top-10 of the NSCAA/Continental Tire Southeast Poll, on its heels for most of the match, but a header by Taylor Piorkowski beat Neipp to her left in the 99th minute giving the Bearcats the 1-0 win.

"Lander is always a great team and tonight there was no exception," head coach Samar Azem said. "We didn't have much rhythm in the first half, but we worked hard in the second half and I thought the match was even at that point. We had some good opportunities, but this loss is heartbreaking and we'll learn from it."

Neipp recorded four of her five saves in the opening half, but possibly her most impressive save came from a penalty kick off the foot of Lander attacker Sarah Piechocki. In a hot September night in Greenwood, nine of the 11 starters played the full 98 minutes.

"I'm proud of our girls, they fought very hard." Azem said. "We saw some good things from a lot of our players."

The Trojans will seek their first victory of the season as they begin South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 14 against Catawba. That match from Trojan Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
