ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's tennis team dropped a narrow, 5-4, decision to visiting Erskine Monday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

Anderson slipped to 9-5 on the season with its second consecutive setback, while Erskine improved to 12-5 by winning its fourth match in the last five outings.

The Trojan duo of Avery Owens and Karen Ching improved to 9-1 on the season by holding off Erskine's Corin Hallman and Mika Goyette, 8-6, at the No. 1 doubles' flight, but the Flying Fleet won two of the three doubles' points to take an early 2-1 lead.

Trailing 2-1, the Trojan's split the singles' points, with Hallman snapping Owens' nine-match win streak at No. 1 singles with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-0 victory. Ching outlasted Miranda Guthrie, 6-2, 4-6 (10-3) at the No. 2 slot, while AU's Hannah Ecleberry dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 3.

AU's Camie Beaulieu-Brunet defeated Erskine's Mika Goyette, 6-4, 6-1 and Lindsay Gregory edged Victoria Stephens, 6-2, 7-6, but Erskine's Sarah McDonald earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6.

In the annual competition for the Beville Cup the Flying Fleet earned a point and evened the score in the battle for possession of the trophy, with the two programs tied at 6.25 apiece with three points remaining (women's golf, tennis and softball).

The women's golf point will be decided Tuesday at Tusculum's Agnes McAmis Memorial, while the men's tennis point will be determined Thursday in Anderson. The softball teams are slated to meet on Monday.

Anderson will get back on the courts on Saturday at Belmont Abbey. First-serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
