ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson men's basketball team dropped a
61-52 decision to visiting Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic
Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic
Center.
Lincoln Memorial (18-4, 11-3 SAC) won its second straight game
and snapped a five-game losing streak to the Trojans with the
victory, while Anderson (15-7, 11-3 SAC) had its four-game win
streak snapped. The Trojans slipped into a three-way tie for second
place in the league standings with LMU and Carson-Newman, while
Wingate is alone in first place.
Junior guard Chandler Hash led the Trojans with 13 points and
dished out three assists, while senior guard Denzail Jones and
forward Bo Holston each added 10 points. Jones shared game-high
honors with three assists, with Holston and Myson Jones each
recording a team-high five rebounds.
LMU senior forward Jake Troyli led all scorers with 16 points
and pulled down a game-high six rebounds, while senior guard Wally
Jones added 12 points. Junior forward Vincent Bailey chipped in 10
points and grabbed four rebounds.
Lincoln Memorial scored the first eight points of the contest
and never trailed. The Trojans trimmed the deficit to just one on
two occasions late in the first half, but were unable to overtake
the Railsplitters, who claimed a 22-18 halftime lead.
LMU pushed out to its largest lead of the contest, 45-29, with
less than 11 minutes remaining before the Trojans went on a 12-2
run to pull within 47-41with less than seven minutes on the clock.
Hash and Myson Jones sandwiched 3-pointers around a layup by LMU's
Chance Jones, then the duo each added another trey to get AU within
six.
Following a Lorenza Ross basket, Holston answered with a layup for
the Trojans. Hash's third 3-pointer of the afternoon pulled AU
within 55-50 with over a minute remaining, but the Trojans were
unable to overtake LMU, as the Railsplitters connected on four free
throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the victory.
Anderson will get back on the hardwood Wednesday at
league-leading Wingate. Tip-off versus the Bulldogs is slated for 8
p.m.
