GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - In a battle for second place in league standings, Anderson dropped a 3-0 (22-25, 21-25, 22-25) decision to Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Arena.

"It was definitely not our best effort today but we fought hard at moments," said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "I think we learned some valuable lessons and will apply them from here on out."

Anderson (13-12, 12-7 SAC) saw its win streak halted at three, while Tusculum (18-8, 13-6 SAC) claimed sole possession of second place in the SAC standings by bouncing back from a five-set home loss to Newberry last night.

With three league contests remaining, Anderson is tied for third with both Mars Hill and Lincoln Memorial, as all three squads are one game behind the Pioneers. Wingate has clinched its eighth straight league title, but just two matches separate second place from eighth place in the battle for seeing in the SAC Tournament.

Junior Hailey Pittman led AU with 10 kills and added two blocks, while Shannon Gillespie and Priscilla Irizarry finished with nine and eight kills, respectively. Setter Meghan Cautero dished out 23 assists, while Alix Hooker recorded 12 digs. Junior Kelly Lacey added 10 digs and freshman Jessica Harris notched three total blocks on the afternoon.

Tusculum sophomore setter Hannah Berling tallied 20 assists and six digs, while senior Ashley Sarmiento added 13 assists and seven digs. Junior Megan Hasse posted four kills and 12 digs, with senior Caitlyn Dean leading all players with 16 digs.

Anderson will look to get back in the win column as the Trojans wrap up their road swing by traveling to Newberry on Tuesday. First-serve is slated for 7 p.m. versus the Wolves.
