MARS HILL, N.C. - Juniors Shannon Gillespie and Hailey Pittman's double-figure kill efforts led the Anderson volleyball team, as the Trojans opened a three-match South Atlantic Conference road swing by outpacing Mars Hill, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18) Friday night at Stanford Arena.

""That was a great win for us, probably our best executed match of the year, said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "All of our hitters had great nights and our defense was incredible."

Anderson (13-11, 12-6 SAC) won its third straight decision and has claimed wins in four of its last six outings. The Trojans handed the Lions just their third home loss of the season, while earning a split of the season series. Mars Hill slipped to 14-9 overall and 12-7 in the league, while having its win streak snapped at two.

With both teams already guaranteed a spot in the Food Lion SAC Tournament later this month, AU moved into a tie for second place with Tusculum. The Trojans and Pioneers square off Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Arena.

Gillespie posted her 18th double-double of the season with a match-high 25 kills and added 16 digs, while Pittman tallied 18 kills for her 18th double-figure kill performance of the season. She also added four block assists on the night. Junior Meghan Cautero notched her 10th double-double of the campaign against the Lions, with 52 assists and 15 digs, while teammate Alix Hooker added a team-high 25 digs.
