MARS HILL, N.C. - Juniors Shannon Gillespie and Hailey Pittman's
double-figure kill efforts led the Anderson volleyball team, as the
Trojans opened a three-match South Atlantic Conference road swing
by outpacing Mars Hill, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18) Friday
night at Stanford Arena.
""That was a great win for us, probably our best executed match
of the year, said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "All of our
hitters had great nights and our defense was incredible."
Anderson (13-11, 12-6 SAC) won its third straight decision and
has claimed wins in four of its last six outings. The Trojans
handed the Lions just their third home loss of the season, while
earning a split of the season series. Mars Hill slipped to 14-9
overall and 12-7 in the league, while having its win streak snapped
at two.
With both teams already guaranteed a spot in the Food Lion SAC
Tournament later this month, AU moved into a tie for second place
with Tusculum. The Trojans and Pioneers square off Saturday
afternoon at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Arena.
Gillespie posted her 18th double-double of the season with a
match-high 25 kills and added 16 digs, while Pittman tallied 18
kills for her 18th double-figure kill performance of the season.
She also added four block assists on the night. Junior Meghan
Cautero notched her 10th double-double of the campaign against the
Lions, with 52 assists and 15 digs, while teammate Alix Hooker
added a team-high 25 digs. Redshirt freshman Priscilla Irizarry
chipped in 10 digs
