GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - For the fourth time in five South Atlantic
Conference contests, the Anderson University women's soccer team
played to a draw, as the Trojans and Tusculum were able to a record
a goal Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
Freshman goalkeeper Sadie Lancaster recorded her first career
shutout in her first collegiate start, making nine saves on the
afternoon, keeping the Tusculum attack off balance. With the
scoreless draw, the Trojans remain unbeaten in the SAC with a 1-0-4
conference record and 2-4-4 overall.
The Pioneers won the shot category, 18-9, but kept AU backline
kept TC from finding a rhythm throughout the afternoon as half of
Tusculum's shots came on goal. Pioneer striker Alisha Pugh paced
the offense with five shots, as four came on goal. For Anderson,
senior Olivia Scalzitti tallied three shots when freshman Helena
Moore posted two.
"Our girls came out with a lot of energy in the second half and
they have a tremendous amount of passion and adjusted formations
well," head coach Samar Azem said. "Sadie (Lancaster) stepped up in
goal and a number of our girls did well. We defended like champions
today and I'm proud of the direction our young women are taking for
our program."
Lancaster's counterpart Marissa Williams finished the match with
three saves, including one in overtime. Williams notched her sixth
shutout of the season and 20th of her career which ties the school
record at Tusculum.
Anderson returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9 as it hosts
Newberry. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is at 2 p.m.
