ANDERSON, S.C. - Before its biggest crowd of the season,
Anderson University women's soccer claimed a key South Atlantic
Conference victory, as the Trojans knocked off Lincoln Memorial 1-0
Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.
The win puts Anderson at 4-6-4 on the season and 2-2-4 in SAC
play, giving them 10 points in the league standings. LMU, which was
seeking a chance at the top-spot in the league, dropped to 5-3 in
conference play and into a tie for third in the conference
standings.
Senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp recorded her 20th complete
shutout, as the native of Anderson S.C. made six saves on the
afternoon to put her one away from a tying for seventh place on the
all-time shutout list in SAC history. Neipp now has 20.4 career
clean sheets.
Fellow senior Krystal Goss provided the scoring for Anderson as
she notched her fourth goal of the season when she flicked a shot
over LMU goalkeeper Kayla Stephens in the 72nd minute. Stephens
came off her line and tried to stop Goss' shot, but it was too late
as the ball traveled over her head and into the net. For Goss, the
Newry, S.C. now holds the team-lead for goals.
"Krystal did very well to capitalize on a loose ball with
composure," Anderson head coach Samar Azem said. "We are seeing the
pieces come together and will continue to build and prepare for
this upcoming week."
Goss went on to lead the team in shots with three, as two
troubled Stephens in goal. Classmate Olivia Scalzitti and freshman
Helena Moore each tallied a shot on goal. LMU was paced by
substitute Olivia Thompson who notched four shots with two on goal
in 71 minutes of action.
"I'm incredibly proud of our players for piecing together a
solid game," Azem said. "A huge thank you to our families and fans
for the support today, it was certainly difference making."
Anderson continues its SAC schedule with a road contest at
Brevard on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
