Trojans Split Two Matches at Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University volleyball team opened action in the AU Invitational by outpacing Limestone 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-11, 25-14) and dropping a 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 11-25) to Belmont Abbey Friday at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson moved to 4-1 on the season, while Limestone remained winless at 0-4 and Belmont Abbey 6-1 improved to 6-1.

The first match saw the Trojans top the Saints in the opening set, then narrowly drop the second frame before decisively claiming the final two sets.

Belmont Abbey jumped on top early in the nightcap, winning in straight sets.

Sophomores Shannon Gillespie and Hailey Pittman led the Trojans offensively, with 19 and 17 kills, respectively. Sophomore Meghan Cautero dished out 44 assists, while Alix Hooker recorded 30 digs and Gillespie added 23. Senior Tiffany Rowe continued her climb up the AU record books with 12 total blocks on the day.

The Trojans close out action in the AU Invitational by squaring off against Barton at 3 p.m. and Coker at 1 p.m.
