Volleyball Rallies for Road Win Past Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. - A balanced offensive attack and defensive effort lifted the Anderson University volleyball team to a 3-2 (25-16, 23-25, 10-25, 25-20, 15-5) win past Lander in nonconference action Tuesday night at Horne Arena.

Anderson wrapped up its three-game road swing by snapping a three-match skid en route to improving to 7-4 overall, while Lander fell to 3-5 and has lost two in a row and five of its last six.

Trojan sophomore Shannon Gillespie notched her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 18 kills and added 22 digs, while fellow sophomore Hailey Pittman recorded 16 kills on the strength of a .342 attack percentage. Meghan Cautero also posted a double-double (49 assists, 11 digs) and Alix Hooker added 26 digs, with Kelley Lacey and Kalie Endres recording 11 digs each.

Lander's Jessica Register totaled 42 assists and 19 digs for the Bearcats, while Kaitlyn Harrison added 19 kills and 23 digs. Tarryn Angermeier and Kiki Hennessey added nine kills each, while Sarah Bradley tallied 25 digs, Madison Kubal 18 and Katelyn Kraft 14.

Anderson returns to the Abney Athletic Center for a brief two-match South Atlantic Conference homestand beginning on Friday. The Trojans play host to Lincoln Memorial on Friday at 7 p.m. and Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
