JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Sophomore midfielder Summer Miller's
goal at the seven-minute mark lifted the Anderson women's soccer
team to a 1-0 win past Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference
action Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.
With one regular-season contest remaining, Anderson (7-5-3,
4-2-2 SAC) has clinched at least the fifth seed in the Food Lion
SAC Tournament that begins on Tue., Oct. 30, and with a win past
league-leading and 19th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, the
Trojans can claim the fourth seed and the right to host a
quarterfinal matchup for the second consecutive year.
The Trojans won their second straight match on the strength of
Miller's second goal of the season and another stellar performance
by the defense, which earned its school-record ninth shutout.
Carson-Newman fell to 2-11-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the league, as
the Eagles' winless streak reached 11 contests.
Carson-Newman held a 13-11 edge in shots and a 6-1 advantage in
corner kicks. Anderson goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp garnered five saves
on the night while going the distance between the pipes.
Following a six-day layoff, the Trojans wrap up the regular
season by playing host to Lenoir-Rhyne in a Homecoming Day contest
on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Trojan
Stadium.
