ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson freshman Shannon Gillespie recorded
her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kill and 13 digs,
but visiting Lincoln Memorial rallied to defeat the Trojans, 3-1
(24-26, 25-15, 25-17, 25-16) in South Atlantic Conference play
Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.
With the setback, Anderson slipped to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the
league, while Lincoln Memorial moved to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the
conference.
The score was tied four times late in the first set before the
Trojans notched the final two points to claim the opening frame,
but the Lady Railsplitters jumped out to an early lead in the
second set and capitalized on AU errors to build a double-digit
cushion en route to the win.
LMU again gained an early edge in the third set, only to see the
Trojans climb within 20-16 late, but held off AU by scoring five of
the final six points. The Railspilitters posted a .370 hitting
percentage in the fourth and final set to push out to a 13-9 edge
and held off the Trojans for the 3-1 victory.
Anderson opens a three-match road swing, beginning with Augusta
State on Tuesday. First-serve is slated for 7 p.m. versus the
Jaguars.
