GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Limestone women's soccer team scored midway through the opening half and held off a late charge as it outlasted Anderson, 1-0, in non-conference action Wednesday night at Saints Field.

Anderson slipped to 3-3 on the season with the setback and saw its three-match win streak halted, while Limestone (3-2) claimed its second straight win.

Defense was on display in the early going with the first shot of the game not coming until Limestone freshman forward Gabriella Reid attempted to give the Saints an early advantage during the 15th minute. A few moments later, Limestone broke the stalemate in the 22nd minute after freshman forward Dominique Evans played a through ball to a streaking Ashley Alderin-Fleagle, who fired a shot that settled in the bottom left corner of the net for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Trojans turned up the pressure in the final five minutes of the opening half, getting a pair of good looks at the goal. However, a long free kick attempt by junior Adrienne Lough and a point-blank shot by Jessica Kleinberg attempted to answer, but missed their target as the Saints held the 1-0 margin into the break.

Limestone had two golden opportunities to increase the lead in the first five minutes of the second half, but Alderin-Fleagle's chip shot from just inside the box bounced off the bottom of the crossbar before her penalty kick was turned away by Anderson keeper Kaitlyn Neipp, maintaining the 1-0 affair.

The Trojans fed off the energy from the save and went to work on offense, looking to drive home the tying score. In the 60th minute, Kleinberg had a bead on goal only to have her shot sail high before a clean look at the net by Britta Widenhouse met a similar fate.

With 13 minutes to play in regulation, Anderson put together another effort to tie the game but two shots deep in the box by Kleinberg were denied by LC keeper Kristin Alderin-Fleagle on a pair of clutch saves.

Despite playing its third match in five days, the Trojans outshot the Saints 11-9 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Kleinberg led the Trojans with five shots, while Widenhouse attempted three. Neipp finished the contest with four saves.

Ashley Alderin-Fleagle finished with a goal on four shots. Evans chipped in an assist, her second of the season, while also attempting a shot. Kristin Alderin-Fleagle made three saves for her second consecutive shutout and the third clean sheet of the year.

Anderson opens a three-match South Atlantic Conference homestand on Saturday, when Lenoir-Rhyne invades Trojan Stadium for a 1 p.m. kick-off in the first contest of a women's-men's doubleheader.
