ANDERSON, S.C. - Using a season-best attack percentage, the Anderson volleyball team swept archrival Erskine, 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-23) in front of a boisterous crowd Wednesday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson improved to 3-7 on the season, while snapping Erskine's two-match win streak. The Flying Fleet fell to 5-5 on the year.

"I am very proud of my team for beating a very good Erskine squad," said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "I thought we executed well, limited our errors and kept the bal away from [Sandra] Campbell as much as possible. We are playing well as we get back into conference play this weekend."

Overall, the Trojans recorded a .298 hitting percentage on the night, committing just nine miscues in 104 attempts.

The first set featured nine ties, with neither team able to build more than a three-point advantage throughout the frame. AU held an 11-8 lead before the Flying Fleet slowly chipped away to take a brief two-point lead at 16-14. However Anderson countered with a 6-1 run to build a 20-17 cushion, only to see Erskine battle back to knot the score for the final time at 20 apiece. But the Trojans fended off EC, as newcomer Meghan Cautero recorded the final point of the set off a feed from Kelley Lacey.

The Trojans never trailed in the second frame, building a six-point cushion (12-6) on the strength of two consecutive kills and an ace. Erskine called a timeout after AU jumped to a 16-9 edge, but the break failed to slow the Trojans, who were in the midst of an 8-4 outburst and doubled up the Fleet on the scoreboard, at 20-10.

Anderson grabbed the largest lead by either team in the third frame, at 10-6, but the Flying Fleet answered by taking a 15-13 lead. Erskine held off AU until the Trojans rallied to knot the score at 21-21 on a kill from freshman outside hitter Shannon Gillespie. With the score again tied at 22 apiece, the teams traded errors before Anderson closed out the win.

Gillespie led a balanced offensive attack with 10 kills on the night, while senior Marlie Bryant and junior Tiffany Rowe each added six kills. Cautero, a freshman setter, handed out a team-high 28 assists, while fellow newcomer Kalie Endres notched 10 digs and recorded two services aces.

Erskine senior Sandra Campbell posted a game-high 16 kills, with teammate Larz Chabra dishing out 31 assists.

Anderson jumps back into South Atlantic Conference action with a two-game road swing, beginning at Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday and closing out at Brevard Saturday afternoon.
