Trojans Down Limestone in Four Sets

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Paced by season-high kill totals from junior Tiffany Rowe and freshman Shannon Gillespie, the Anderson volleyball team wrapped up its non-conference slate with a 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18) win past Limestone Tuesday night at the Timken Center.

Anderson (8-20) snapped a four-match skid with the win, while Limestone slipped to 15-16 overall with its second consecutive setback.

The first set saw the Trojans race out to a 9-2 lead, but Limestone chipped away, eventually taking its first lead, briefly at 17-16, before senior Marlie Bryant knocked down one of her five kills on the night to knot the score for just the third time. Anderson closed out the set with an 8-1 run to claim the win behind the strong serving of freshman Jackie Harper.

The second frame featured seven tie scores, before the Saints snapped an 18-18 score and held on for the narrow 25-22 victory.

AU reclaimed the advantage with a third-set win by rallying from an 8-4 deficit and eventually tying the score at 15-15 and holding on for the win.

The Trojans bolted out to an 11-2 cushion in the fourth and final set, as Bryant notched three aces in a stretch of six serves, and the Saints were unable to recover.
As a team, AU recorded its' second-highest hitting percentage of the season, at .247, with Gillespie recording her 11th double-double of the campaign with a season-high 19 kills and 12 digs, while Rowe posted a season-best 11 digs and added six total blocks on the night. Freshman Meghan Cautero dished out 30 assists and recorded 11 digs, while Alix Hooker added 13 digs.

Anderson closes out its regular season with a two-match South Atlantic Conference road swing, beginning on Friday at league-leading and 14th-ranked Wingate. First-serve versus the Bulldogs is scheduled for 7 p.m.
