Rowe Has Career Effort in Homecoming Setback to Mars Hill

Box score

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University junior Tiffany Rowe knocked down a career-high 13 total blocks, but the visiting Mars Hill Lions dampened Homecoming and Senior Day for Anderson, as MHC defeated the Trojans, 3-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 25-17) in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

With both teams battling for a berth in next month's conference tournament, the Trojans (7-20, 4-12 SAC) closed out their home slate, while Mars Hill improved to 12-11 overall and 7-10 in league action.

Rowe 13-block effort equals the 10th-best individual game total in league history and ranks third all-time in the AU record books, just behind Amada Hahn's 15 block outing on Sept. 10, 1997 and Von Wood's school-record 16-block outing versus Georgia Southwestern (9/16/97).

The team's 26 blocks ranks as the sixth-best outing in SAC history, while Rowe currently stands seventh in AU's record books for career blocks, with 237, and is poised to move into fifth place with two more.

Freshmen Shannon Gillespie notched her 10th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 14 digs, while fellow freshman Meghan Cautero handed out a team-high 28 assists. Freshman Kalie Endres recorded 29 digs, while senior Marlie Bryant, playing her final game in the Abney Center, added 19 digs.

Anderson opens a three-game road swing by traveling to Conference Carolinas opponent Limestone on Tuesday. First-serve versus the Saints is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Gaffney.
