Lincoln Memorial Edges Trojans

Box score

HARROGATE, Tenn. - Anderson opened a two-game South Atlantic Conference road trip with a 3-0 (30-28, 25-18 and 25-17.) setback to Lincoln Memorial in volleyball action Friday night at Mary E. Mars Gymnasium.

Playing without two starters due to illness, Anderson (9-3, 3-1 SAC) had its three-match win streak snapped, while Lincoln Memorial (7-2, 3-2 SAC) won its home opener as the Railsplitters stretched their win streak to three with the win.

"We really played well despite being shorthanded," said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. "We put up a good fight, especially in the first set. We struggled on serve receives which made it hard to run our offense. Overall the team played well and fought hard."

Anderson pulled out to the 17-12 lead in the opening set, but LMU's Lauren Kiwacka and Kaitlin Posnak picked up a combined five kills out of the next six points to give LMU the 18-17 lead. The teams switched leads until a kill by AU senior Jamie Lancaster gave the Trojans the 24-22 lead. Kills by LMU's Blaire Fowler and Kaitlin Walton and an attack error by the Trojans gave LMU the 25-24 lead. The teams swapped leads again until a kill by Posnak and an attack error by Anderson enabled the Lady Railsplitters to pull out the narrow 30-28 win.

The second set saw LMU break a 5-5 tie and methodically pull ahead to a 15-9 lead. Anderson cut the lead to 15-14 before the Lady Railsplitters surged ahead to pull out the 25-18 win off a block by Kiwacka and Fowler.

After a quick start by LMU in the third set, Anderson rallied to tie the score at 13-13 before LMU put together a 12-4 run to pick up the 25-17 win.

Anderson was led by Lancaster's double-double of 11 kills and 19 digs. Meagan Murray picked up 16 digs and Lindsay Doggett dished out 27 assists for the Trojans.

Kiwacka picked up her first triple-double of the season with ten kills, 23 assists and eleven digs while hitting .526 for the match. Kaitlin Walton hit .417 and led LMU in kills with 12 while Fowler also had ten kills in the match. Brittany Pugh had 21 assists and Ashley Knight picked up 16 digs in the win.

Anderson is back in action quickly, with the Trojans closing out the conference road swing at Carson-Newman with first-serve slated for 2 p.m. Saturday at Holt Fieldhouse.
