GREENWOOD, S.C. - Playing its third consecutive match away from
home, the Anderson women's soccer team fell, 2-1, in non-conference
action to Lander Tuesday night at Bearcat Field.
Lander (4-1) rebounded from an overtime setback at home to 16th
ranked Armstrong Atlantic, while Anderson (3-2-1) suffered its
third consecutive winless match after notching a draw versus
Harding last Sunday.
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Carrie
Settle scored in a mix from in front of the goal on an assist from
Krystal Goss. The score was the sophomore's team-leading fifth goal
of the 2010 season, while the assist from Goss marked the
freshman's first handout of the season.
The Bearcats, ranked fifth in the Southeast region, notched the
equalizer at 31:12 when Jessica Skowron netted a goal on a Nina
Morales assist. Christina Barbour followed with the game-winning
goal three minutes later on an assist from Skowron.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second
half, despite the Bearcats 12-1 advantage in shots during the final
45 minutes. On the night, Lander outshot AU, 21-5, and led in
corner kicks, 7-0.
Anderson goalkeeper Kaitlin Neipp recorded nine saves, while
Lander's Katherine Baltz had three on the night.
Anderson continues its six-match road swing by visiting
Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 7 p.m. versus
the Bears in Hickory, N.C. The contest will mark the AU women's
soccer program's first league match as a member of the South
Atlantic Conference.
