ANDERSON, S.C. -- Dropping just three sets on a cold and windy afternoon, the Anderson men's and women's tennis teams blew past South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry by identical, 9-0, margins Thursday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Tennis Courts. The Trojans' women's team improved to 2-4 on the year, while the scarlet and gray fell to 1-3 on the young season. Anderson's men's team moved one match above .500 at 3-2 and dropped Newberry to 1-2. Both Anderson teams swept the doubles' matches, while Anderson's Angie Solorzano picked up a hard-fought win at No. 1 singles and the rest of the squad followed suit, blanking the scarlet and gray. With her straight-set win at No. 4, Julie Halbert improved to 5-1 on the year. On the men's courts, AU's Stephane Murray claimed a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 win, setting the tone for the afternoon. Freshman John Karle, the reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, stayed perfect on the season (5-0) with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Anderson will be back in action on Friday when the Trojans get back in conference play by playing host to Belmont Abbey in a 2:30 p.m. match that was originally slated to be played in Belmont, N.C.
