ANDERSON, S.C. - With five players in double figures, Anderson
recorded a season high offensive output as the Trojans ran past
Southern Wesleyan, 99-88, in non-conference men's basketball action
Thursday night at the Abney Athletic Center.
Anderson extended its win streak to three games and improved to
5-3 on the season while snapping Southern Wesleyan's three-game win
streak, as the Warriors dropped to 5-2.
The Trojans steadily built a 14-7 lead over the opening four
minutes of action, but Southern Wesleyan chipped away and
eventually knotted the score at 18 apiece. The score was tied two
more times in the next two minutes before the Warriors opened a
pair of four-point leads - the last coming with 7:29 left in the
opening half.
Anderson junior guard Nick Trull ignited a 12-0 run with two of
his season-high 21 points and teammate Oskars Ernsteins followed
with a 3-pointer from the right corner to give the Trojans a lead
they would not relinquish at 31-30 with 6:40 on the clock.
Senior Brandon Young capped the surge with a putback of his own
miss, as AU turned the four-point deficit into an eight-point
advantage at the 3:42 mark. With the Trojans holding a seven-point
edge, Trull scored six unanswered points, courtesy of a 3-pointer
and three free throws to send Anderson to the locker room with a
47-34 halftime lead.
Anderson broke the game open with a 16-5 run to open the second
stanza, taking a 63-39 lead with 15:37 left in the contest. The
Warriors trimmed the AU lead to 11 points late, but could get no
closer in the final minutes.
Trull scored a game-high 21 points off the bench, while Kevis
Cornwell added 20 points on the strength of 12-of-15 shooting from
the free throw line and handed out a game-high four assists. Trey
Britton recorded his first double-double of the season with 12
points and 10 rebounds, with Young and Denzail Jones each netting
11 points.
SWU's Nick Lagroone scored a game-high 27 points, with Michael
Corpening and Stefan Hood chipping in 16 and 14 points,
respectively.
Anderson gets back on the hardwood Saturday, when the Trojans
