Catawba Dampens Senior Night for Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. - Visiting Catawba dampened Anderson's Senior Night celebration as the Indians topped AU, 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-20) Friday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

The Trojans bid farewell to a trio of seniors - Jamie Lancaster, Adria Mullaney and Lindsay Doggett - that has combined to rewrite the school record books in digs, assists and kills, while ranking in the top ten in numerous other categories.
Battling for the fifth seed in next week's conference tournament, which will be hosted by the Indians, Anderson (18-13, 8-9 SAC) came up just short, while Catawba (13-12, 8-9 SAC) won its fourth straight contest and fifth in its last six outings.

AU posted a late rally after trailing for most of the opening set to take the win behind the strong serving of junior Meagan Murray. The Indians capitalized on Trojan miscues midway through the second frame to snap a 14-14 deadlock and went on to the win behind an 11-4 run. Catawba jumped out to a quick 6-1 advantage in the third set and held off a late AU rally that saw the Trojans equal the score at 21 apiece, but the Indians responded by scoring four of the final five points.

The Trojans took an early lead in the fourth set, only to see Catawba answer to build an 18-12 cushion before AU again rallied within 21-20 before errors doomed the comeback. Lancaster recorded 17 kills to equal former Trojan standout Amanda "Tex" Edwards in the school record books, while Mullaney overtook Edwards for second place all-time in digs with her match-high 25. Doggett set the school record for assists earlier this season and continued to build on that number with her team-high 28 assists.

Junior Marlie Bryant notched a double-double, adding 10 kills and 11 digs, while Lancaster posted 16 digs. Freshman Hayley Hoover handed out 13 assists off the bench. Anderson wraps up the regular season by playing host to league-leading Wingate Saturday at the Abney Center, with first-serve slated for 2 p.m.
