INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division II Women's
Volleyball Committee released its regional rankings earlier this
week and the Trojans remain among the area's elite squads, with six
South Atlantic Conference teams ranked in the top 10 of the
Southeast Region.
Wingate remains ranked No. 1 in the region. The Bulldogs
are 25-1 overall and 18-0 in the SAC, riding a 23-match winning
streak. Wingate has been the top-ranked team in the region in every
poll since the start of the 2008 season. The Bulldogs have hosted
the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament the last two
years.
Tusculum College remains at third in the rankings.
Lincoln Memorial remains at fourth. Carson-Newman College holds
steady at sixth, while Catawba College remains at seventh. Anderson
University stays steady at ninth.
The rankings include the top 10 teams in each of the
eight regions, with records through November 8.
Teams selected to the 2010 NCAA Division II Women's
Volleyball Championship will be determined Sunday. The selections
announcement will be streamed online via www.NCAA.com at 10 p.m. Eastern
time.
Tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt Conference
and Conference Carolinas will receive automatic bids to NCAA
Southeast Regional in November. The five remaining top-ranked
programs will earn at-large bids to the eight-team
regional.
Eight eight-team regional tournaments will be played
Nov. 18-21 at campus sites. The quarterfinals, semifinals and
championship will be Dec. 2-4 at Bellarmine University in
Louisville, Ky.
