Trojans Bring Down Flying Fleet

Box score

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson volleyball team won its second straight match and avenged an earlier setback to Erskine by blanking the Flying Fleet, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-19) in non-conference action Wednesday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

With the win Anderson improved to 17-10 on the season, while handing Erskine (15-9) its fourth loss in the last five outings. The Trojans also claimed their sixth win in their last eight contests.

The Trojans raced out to an 11-2 lead in the opening set behind the serves of freshman Chelsea Olson and senior Lindsay Doggett and never looked back, building a double-digit advantage late in the frame.

After Erskine took an early edge in the second set, the score was knotted eight times before AU again took advantage of Doggett's serving to snap a late tie and score five of the final six points to take the win.

Anderson built a 12-3 lead in the third set and led by 13 points before the Fleet closed to within 23-17. The Trojans then took advantage of Erskine errors to secure the win.

Senior Jamie Lancaster shared match-high honors with 11 kills and narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs on the night. Freshman Tori Calhoon added eight kills, while Doggett handed out a match-high 24 assists. Senior Adria Mullaney collected a match-high 16 digs, with Doggett adding eight digs.

Anderson begins a two-match South Atlantic road swing at Mars Hill on Friday, with first-serve versus the Lions slated for 7 p.m.
