Box score

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson volleyball team opened Homecoming weekend with a 3-1 (14-25, 27-29, 25-23, 15-25) setback to visiting Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference action Friday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson (15-9, 8-5 SAC), ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Southeast Regional poll, dropped just their second home contest of the season and had its win streak snapped at four, while Lincoln Memorial (16-5, 8-5, SAC), ranked sixth in the latest regional poll, regained a share of third place with the Trojans entering the final three weeks of the season.

The Lady Railsplitters have rebounded to win their second straight after dropping a pair of home contests and swept the season series with AU.

Anderson jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage in the opening set, but LMU answered with a 6-1 run as Kaitlin Walton's kill gave the visitors a lead that they would not relinquish. The Trojans edged back within 9-8, but were not able to even the score, with Lincoln Memorial going on an 8-1 run to take an eight-point lead. Walton closed out the set by serving for five of the final six points.

The second set was tied five times in the early going, before Anderson jumped out to a 14-9 cushion and went on to build a 20-16 lead before LMU rallied to knot the score at 24 apiece. The two squads battled on even terms before LMU claimed the win as Jennifer Drumm recorded a kill and AU committed an attack error.

AU fell behind early in the fourth frame, with LMU pushing out to a 9-3 edge before the Trojans inched back to eventually knot the score at 23-23 and took the win behind Marlie Bryant's serves.

LMU grabbed a quick lead in the fifth set and the Trojans stayed within three points for most of the frame, but were not able to recover as the Railsplitters took the double-digit win.

AU senior Jamie Lancaster shared match-high honors in kills with LMU's Lauren Kiwacka, as each recorded 13, while the Railsplitters' Walton and Candace Richardson each added 12 kills. The Trojans hit just .088 on the night, while Richardson led the LMU attack with a .348 percentage.

Freshman Hayley Hoover recorded a match-high 29 assists, while senior Adria Mullaney collected 27 digs on the defensive side. Bryant added 14 digs for the Trojans, while Lancaster notched 13.

Kiwacka dished out 20 assists, with four Railsplitters reaching double-figure digs, led by Kristen Cantrell's 29. Kiwacka garnered 17 digs, with Ashley Knight adding 14 and Lia Bevins collecting 10.

Anderson plays host to league-opponent Carson-Newman and Conference Carolinas' foe Limestone in a tri-match slated for Saturday at the Abney Athletic Center. The Trojans face Carson-Newman at noon, with the Eagles and Limestone squaring off at 2:30 p.m. Anderson and Limestone close out the action at 5 p.m.
