ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson men's basketball team won its
third straight game as they defeated Erskine College 66-52 Thursday
night at the Abney Athletic Center. The win moves Anderson to 11-3
overall, and 5-3 in the Conferences Carolinas. While the loss drops
Erskine to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play. "It's a good win
for us," said head men's basketball coach Jason Taylor. "We shared
the ball, played well on defense, and Nick and Brandon knocked down
shots." Sophomore guard Nick Trull was a big key as he scored all
16 of his points in the second half. The Trojans held a 32-31
advantage early in the second half before Stephen Cobb's
three-point basket sparked a 14-4 run that stretched the game open.
Trull contributed seven of the fourteen points during that stretch.
Trull's 16 points was a team high, as he was 4-of-9 from beyond the
arc. Junior guards Brandon Young and Kevis Cornwell netted 13
points apiece, while Young also added five rebounds and five
assists. Trey Britton led the Trojans with seven rebounds to go
along with his eight points. Erskine senior guard Brandon Wright
kept the Flying Fleet in the game notching 18 points on the night.
Yet, in a game that saw five ties and seven lead changes, the
Trojans were just too much down the stretch. "We got some big
rebounds," Taylor added. "Trey Britton brought us a lot of energy,
and Kevis and Jamelle Lowery did a great job defensively." Anderson
looks to win its fourth straight game Saturday when they face
Barton College at the Abney Athletic Center. Tip-off against the
Bulldogs is slated for 7:30 p.m.
