WINGATE, N.C. -- The Anderson volleyball team swept St.
Augustines, 3-0, (25-19, 25-18, 25- 17) and dropped a 3-0 (14-25,
16-25, 13-25) decision to Wingate in the Wingate Classic Saturday
afternoon at Cubby Arena. Anderson (5-2), fell behind, 5-2, in the
opening set against St. Augustine's before rallying to even the
score at five apiece. The Falcons quickly reclaimed a three-point
advantage, but the Trojans refused to go away, again pulled even at
10-10 with Brittani Herron serving. Jamie Lancaster's kill tied the
score at 14-14 and Marlie Bryant gave AU a lead it would not
relinquish as the Trojans went on to claim the first set, 25-19.
The Trojans jumped ahead early in the second frame, but saw St.
Augustine's pull even at 10-10 in a set that saw five ties. The
Falcons took a brief lead, 15-12, before AU recovered to gain a
16-15 edge and hold off St. Augustine's, 25-18. AU snapped a 7-7
tie and went on to claim a 25-17 third set win behind Lancaster's
six kills. "We came out a little flat," said Anderson head coach
Craig Mosqueta. "But our bench came on and played well in the first
match." Lancaster posted a match-high 15 kills en route to
recording a .321 attack percentage, while Lindsay Doggett handed
out 29 assists. In the weekend's final match for AU, the host
Bulldogs (7-0) got past the Trojans in three sets. Lancaster again
led the Anderson attack with nine kills and 12 digs and sophomore
outside hitter Adria Mullaney added eight kills and nine digs for
the Trojans while sophomore setter Lindsay Doggett had 26 assists.
Lancaster and Mullaney were named to the All-Tournament team at the
conclusion of the two-day affair. Lancaster knocked down a total of
44 kills in four sets, an average of 3.67 kills per game and
recorded a team-high 42 digs, while Mullaney collected 16 kills in
the two contests versus Wingate. The Trojans continue their
season-high seven match road swing by opening Conference Carolinas
play with a visit to Converse on Tuesday, Sept. 8. First serve is
slated for 6:30 p.m. in Spartanburg.
