ANDERSON, S.C. -- With both teams committing unforced errors, the Anderson volleyball team fell, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-23) in a hard-fought Conference Carolinas match Wednesday night at the Abney Athletic Center. "Erskine came to play tonight," said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueta. "We just committed too many errors and you can't win that way." Anderson (9-7, 4-3 Conference Carolinas), which had its three-match win stretch snapped by the Flying Fleet, still boasts a 5-2 record at home during the 2009 campaign. But the Trojans committed four service errors and four receiving errors, which helped seal the outcome. Erskine, which moved to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the league, gained a 12-7 advantage in the opening set, and saw AU rally from a 16-9 deficit to pull within 20-18. But the Trojans could get no closer as the Flying Fleet collected the narrow 25-22 win. The second frame was much the same, as EC again pushed out to an early advantage, only to see AU battle back once again with the Flying Fleet squeezing out the victory by an identical 25-22 score. The third set was tied three times early and five times in total. Erskine broke away from a 4-4 tie and grabbed a 12-8 lead before AU charged back to climb within two points. EC pushed out to a 19-14 advantage, but the Trojans refused to go away quietly, evening the score at 20 apiece behind the strong serving of Jennifer Moffitt. The set was knotted twice more before the visitors edged out the 25-23 win. AU's Jamie Lancaster and Erskine's Liz Massey shared match-high honors with 12 kills each, while Larz Chabra handed out 33 assists on the night. Lancaster also came away with 16 digs, while Marlie Bryant and Moffitt each recorded 11 digs. Anderson hits the road for a two-game conference road swing beginning at Lees-McRae on Friday night, with first-serve slated for 7 p.m. The trip wraps up Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Belmont Abbey.
