ANDERSON, S.C. -- As the Trojans battle for position in next
week's conference tournament, outside hitter Jamie Lancaster has
been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's
volleyball first-team as announced by the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The native of Fountain
Inn, S.C., sports a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is majoring
in kinesiology. Lancaster has been named to the Dean's List three
times and earlier this semester was named one of the top two
independent college students in the state of South Carolina. The
5-foot-10 outside hitter was a key player on last season's
conference tournament championship team and has earned conference
Player of the Week honors twice this season, in addition to being
named to the Wingate Classic All-Tournament team. Lancaster, a
junior, currently leads the conference and ranks eighth nationally
in kills per set (4.31). She has posted match-highs in kills an
impressive 21 times so far this season, while ranking fourth in the
conference in hitting percentage. Lancaster has recorded 17
double-doubles and has a 20-match streak of double-figure kills,
while posting an attack percentage of .372 over the last six
contests. "Jamie is well-deserving of this award as she excels in
both the gym and in the classroom," said Anderson head coach Craig
Mosqueta. "She is focused on being successful in all areas as can
be seen in her stats and in her academic success." In order to earn
recognition, a student-athlete must be a starter or important
reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a
4.0 scale) at his/her current institution and are voted upon by
CoSIDA members. As a first-team all-district selection, Lancaster
is eligible for consideration nationally as an academic
All-American. CoSIDA District III includes Florida, Georgia, North
Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Anderson wraps up the
regular season by playing host to Lees-McRae tonight, with Belmont
Abbey and Augusta visiting the Abney Athletic Center Saturday
afternoon.
