Banner Elk, N.C. -- Behind a hot-hitting percentage, top-seeded
Lees-McRae outpaced fourth-seeded Anderson, 3-0, (25-13, 25-12,
25-19) in semifinal action of the Conference Carolinas volleyball
tournament Friday night at Williams Gymnasium. With the win,
Lees-McRae improved to 28-5 on the season, including 16-3 in the
friendly confines of Williams Gymnasium, while Anderson wrapped up
its season at 22-13 overall. The Lady Bobcats move on to host No. 2
seed Pfeiffer, a 3-2 winner past third-seeded Limestone, for the
tournament title on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Trojans fell behind, 8-0,
in the opening set and were not able to recover, as Lees-McRae
posted the 25-13 first set win on the strength of a staggering .448
hitting percentage. The second set was similar, as the Lady Bobcats
again pushed out to a quick 11-2 advantage. AU trimmed the deficit
to six, at 15-9, but that was as close as the Trojans would get
with Lees-McRae again used a strong attack, collecting 13 kills
against just two errors in 25 attempts. The third set started with
Anderson falling behind, 5-1, but the Trojans closed the gap to
12-9 on a Lees-McRae service error. But the AU rally fell just
short, as back-to-back kills pushed the Lady Bobcats lead to 14-9
and they went on to secure the three-set win, 25-19. Anderson's
Jamie Lancaster shared match-high honors with 13 kills and Adria
Mullaney followed with seven kills and a team-high eight digs and
