Anderson Splits Doubleheader in Nonconference Battle at Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Anderson University Softball (14-4) split a nonconference doubleheader with Claflin (7-8) on the road Friday afternoon. The Trojans rallied early in the first to secure a 7-3 victory before the Panthers paced Anderson 7-2 in the nightcap.

The Black and Gold rallied early in the first game of the doubleheader with five runs in the top of the third. Freshman Kara Davis (Duncan, S.C.) opened the scoring after stealing home before Junior Kadence Barrick (Phenix City, Ala.) notched a double, bringing in two Trojans. Freshman Bella Harbour (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and senior Jenna Davis (Anderson, S.C.) each tallied a single RBI after batting a single. Claflin scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth before senior Carson Hobbs (Nicholson, Ga.) doubled for senior Shelby Bandt (Ft. Valley Ga.) to score in the top of the sixth. Barrick then popped up to left field for Hobbs to record the final run by the Trojans. Late in the seventh inning, the Panters attempted to come back with two more runs but were unsuccessful.

Barrick led the Trojans, going 1-for-4 with one run and three RBI. Freshman Kora Kilgore (Smithville, Tenn.) posted her third victory leading the Trojans in the circle. The Smithville native pitched all seven innings with 13 strikeouts while only allowing six hits and three runs.

The Panthers took a firm lead in game two after Barrick reached first on an error, allowing Bandt to score in the top of the order. Claflin boasted four runs across two innings before the Trojans attempted to close the gap with two more runs in the top of the sixth. The Panthers notched the final run of the day after a triple late in the sixth.
