ANDERSON, S.C. — Anderson University Softball (22-18, 7-9 SAC) secured a sweep over Lenoir-Rhyne (23-15, 10-6 SAC), in South Atlantic Conference softball action Tuesday, winning the opener 5-1 before rallying for a 4-3 victory in the nightcap at the AU Softball Complex.
In Game 1, the Trojans used a three-run fourth inning and a stellar pitching performance from junior
Katie Morris to take control. Morris (11-8) tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits and one unearned run while striking out three. LR's Madison Wilson (11-6) took the loss for the Bears, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits over six innings.
Senior
Maggie Nauck led Anderson's offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Freshman
Kadence Barrick added two hits, an RBI, and a run scored, while junior
Jenna Davis and freshman
Chaney Crosby also contributed RBI. The Trojans turned two double plays to stifle the Bears' offense.
In Game 2, Anderson overcame an early 3-1 deficit with a decisive three-run fifth inning, capped by a go-ahead home run from senior
Maddie Carpenter. Carpenter finished 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Freshman
Caroline Morgan (4-3) earned the win in relief, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings before Morris returned to close out the final two frames for her second save of the season.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Faith Carrigan (8-6) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out five in a complete-game effort.
Anderson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Mars Hill. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1pm.
