Paced By Passmore's Season Best 33 Points, Trojans Defeat Mars Hill To Advance To Semifinal Round Of The South Atlantic Conference Tournament

Box Score ROCK HILL, S.C. — Anderson University senior Zamiya Passmore poured in a season-high 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading No. 3 Anderson (22-9) past No. 6 Mars Hill (17-12), 80-73, in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament quarterfinals Wednesday night at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center.

"Man what a battle! ," exclaimed head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "That's what tournaments are all about Anyone can go on a run and win at any time. Mars Hill played a great game and proved just how tough our league is."

"As for the game, we knew had to rebound, defend, and make free throws," explained Barbaree. "When the lights come on, big time players have to make big time plays, and that's exactly what Diamond and Zee did… grabbing rebound after rebound and knocking down huge free throws."

"On a night when our three's from guards weren't falling, Diamond stepped out and hit two big ones," noted Barbaree. "When we needed a bucket Zee found one."
"And stats that won't be on paper, were a huge charge taken by Rose late, Kyla getting a big steal on a post entry, and Ash playing her tail off guarding one of the top scorers in the league," said Barbaree.

"Time to rest and get ready for another great team tomorrow," added Barbaree.

Passmore added seven assists and three steals, recording her fourth double-double of the season. Senior Diamond McDowell posted a double-double, her 17th of the season, with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman Rose Gravel added eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Junior Ashlyn Sheridan chipped in seven points and three rebounds.

Anderson outscored Mars Hill 23-15 in the fourth quarter to pull away in a game that saw 12 lead changes and six ties. The Trojans capitalized on 21 second-chance points and 22 fast-break points to help secure the victory.

Mars Hill  was led by Aaliyah El with 16 points, while Lauren Arnold came off the bench to score 12.

Anderson advances to the SAC semifinals, where it will face No. 2 Carson-Newman. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center.
