ANDERSON, S.C. — Anderson University softball (18-16, 4-8 SAC) secured a doubleheader sweep over UVA Wise (16-17, 2-8 SAC) on Saturday at the AU Softball Complex, winning 7-3 in the opener before cruising to a 15-5 run-rule victory in Game 2.
In the first game, junior
Katie Morris (9-7) went the distance for the Trojans, giving up six hits while striking out two. Anderson took control with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by clutch hitting from sophomore
Kadence Barrick and senior
Maggie Nauck. Barrick finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Nauck added a double and three RBIs. Sophomore
Paige Vickery also homered in the win.
UVA Wise was led by catcher Morgan McKnight, who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. A. Nolley (6-5) took the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) over three innings.
Anderson carried its momentum into the second game, erupting for six first-inning runs en route to a 15-5, five-inning win. Senior
Maddie Carpenter powered the offense, going 3-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBI. Nauck and junior
Lauren Brakovec also homered, while Vickery contributed a triple, double, and three RBI. The Black and Gold totaled 13 hits and capitalized on timely hitting.
Freshman
Caroline Morgan (3-2) earned the win in relief. Morris also contributed in relief, striking out five over 2.1 innings.
The Trojans step out of conference play to travel to USC Aiken on Wednesday. First-pitch is slated for 1 pm.
