Anderson Sweeps Lees-McRae

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University Softball (10-6) claimed a pair of victories over Lees-McRae (1-11) in a softball doubleheader at the AU Softball Complex, dominating the first game 6-0 and coming from behind to win the second 6-5.

Game 1: Anderson 6, Lees-McRae 0
The Trojans  were in control from start to finish in the first game, using a five-run fifth inning to break a close contest wide open. Anderson pitcher Katie Morris (4-3) delivered a dominant performance in the circle, tossing a complete game with 12 strikeouts and allowing just four hits.

The Trojans grabbed an early lead with a first-inning RBI from shortstop junior Jenna Davis and added another in the third inning. The fifth inning saw a three-run homer from right fielder senior Maddie Carpenter, which capped off the offensive explosion. Davis finished the game with two hits and an RBI, while Carpenter's three-run shot was the highlight. Maggie Nauck added two hits and an RBI, and first baseman Lauren Brakovec also drove in a run.

Despite a late surge in the bottom of the seventh, Lees-McRae was unable to generate any offense. The Bobcats managed just four hits, with Allie Johnston leading the way with a double.

Game 2: Anderson 6, Lees-McRae 5
Lees-McRae scored all five of its runs in the third inning, but Anderson rallied with a four-run fourth inning to hold on for the win.

In the third inning, the Bobcats capitalized on a two-out rally, with catcher Rylee Konowalchuk leading the charge with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI. McKenzie Presson and Taylor Beurrier also drove in runs as the Bobcats took a 5-1 lead. But the Trojans responded, scoring one in the third and adding four in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run home run from center fielder Kadence Barrick. Barrick also added a second RBI with a hit later in the game, finishing 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Carson Hobbs (3-1) picked up the win in relief for Anderson, throwing five scoreless innings after entering with the bases loaded in the third. Hobbs allowed five hits but struck out three batters, preventing any further Bobcat scoring threats.

Anderson returns to action on Sunday when it travels to nonconference opponent Barton. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1pm.
