NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) announced this year's cross country regional awards on Wednesday afternoon, naming Anderson's Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Kevin Eagle the Men's Cross County Coach of the Year.
"It's been an amazing year for our team, and this just validates the hard work everyone has put in since the summer." said Eagle. "This group of guys make it easy when they come to compete each and every day at practice and races."
Anderson's men's cross country team currently sits ranked No. 21 in the nation and No. 2 in the Southeast region ahead of the NCAA National Championships, per the USTFCCCA.
At the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, Eagle led the Trojans to a runner-up finish with 58 points for the best finish in program history, punching a ticket to the NCAA National Championships in Kenosha, Wis. on Nov. 22. The championships will conclude this historical season for the Black and Gold.
The Trojans opened the season at the Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. Anderson won the meet out of 13 teams on the field, claiming the first individual spot with all seven scorers finishing in the top-25.
Following Wingate, the Black and Gold competed in the Lucian Rosa Invitational, which served as the NCAA National Preview, hosted in Kenosha, Wis. AU finished 8th in one of the biggest Division II meets of the regular season, beating several nationally ranked teams on the field.
The third event on the schedule and final meet of the regular season for AU was the UAH Chargers Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville. The men clinched another 1st place victory out of 26 teams on the pitch. Three Trojans earned top-10 finishes, followed by two top-25 finishes.
Anderson kicked off postseason with a second-place team finish at the SAC Championships, falling behind the current No. 2 team in the country, Wingate.
